I thoroughly enjoyed reading the newest book by Max Lucado. I was part of his launch team for full disclosure. Thomas Nelson Publishing sent me an early copy to review and later sent me the published book. I ran into an early disagreement with how Max Lucado made the decision to refer to the Holy Spirit using only masculine pronouns. I agreed with not using “it” to refer to the Holy Spirit but I would have gone with a more feminine pronoun in keeping with the Hebrew and Greek scripture. Putting that aside, the rest of the book was wonderful to read. I will use it for a bible study in my church and I expect that my congregation will enjoy studying it as much as I did.
Chapter 12 “You Unleashed: The Spirit as the Gift Giver” was particularly powerful in my opinion. We all have gifts given by the Holy Spirit and as Max writes “Would it not be a tragedy of the highest order to miss out on your unique-to-you assignment?” I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. So many believers don’t believe that they have any God-given gifts of the spirit. That makes me sad.
I give this book five stars and highly recommend it.
