Psalm 57:1-2 Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purposes for me.
We are seeing the devastation of Hurricane Michael in the Florida Panhandle and George. Six days later and they are still combing the collapsed houses looking for people in the rubble. When you hear the stories of people who stayed behind (and regretted it), it will bring tears to your eyes and make this disaster very real in your mind. It will be weeks before the people in Mexico Beach will have basic utilities. They will be living without jobs, housing, schools, etc. We need to remember to keep them in our prayers and to give to UMCOR, if you are able. I am going to double the Holy Communion offering from last Sunday for UMCOR. Money is what is needed now to help the people. Don’t give clothes, shoes, etc. I will let you know if Arkansas is called on to send emergency response teams to Florida. If so, I pray you will help those teams, also.
Psalm 93:4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea — the Lord on high is mighty.
